Go for the Best: Take One of Maverick’s Grand Canyon Helicopter Tours

November 16th, 2022

There’s no need to settle for an ordinary helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon when you can have a great tour. Maverick Helicopters is a cut above the rest, ensuring that its passengers enjoy their helicopter rides in safety, comfort and style while they’re receiving the best treatment possible.

For example, Maverick’s air terminals are conveniently located. One is in Henderson, Nevada, only about 15 minutes south of Las Vegas. But Maverick’s other terminal is even more convenient because it’s right on the Vegas Strip, across from the Mandalay Bay Resort. This might seem insignificant, but most Grand Canyon helicopter rides take off from Boulder City, a half-hour bus trip from Las Vegas

EcoStar 130 helicopters are designed specifically for sightseeing, with cabins that are 25% larger than normal, state-of-the-art climate control systems (important if you’re flying during the summer when daytime temperatures routinely soar over 100), 180-degree panoramic windshields and theater-style seating. They also have sound-dampened rotors that handle air turbulence well. And guess what? Maverick operates the world’s largest fleet of EcoStar 130 choppers. The alternative is helicopters that sound like lawnmowers and have rear-facing jump seats. Which type do you think is better for Grand Canyon flights.

EcoStar choppers seat six passengers, so you’ll be split up if you’re traveling in a group bigger than that. This has never been a problem in my experience, because there will probably be another helicopter leaving around the same time. You’ll be within a mile or two of the other people in your group.

Maverick operates South Rim and West Rim Grand Canyon helicopter tours. You can choose a landing or aerial tour of the West Rim. For the best canyon experience I strongly suggest taking a landing tour, but if you’re short on time an aerial tour would be best.

Landing tours of the West Rim either land at the top of the rim or on the canyon floor, all the way at the bottom. They include a picnic and you can enhance your experience by adding a float trip down the Colorado River. Flights landing on the rim can be bundled with a pass to the fabulous Grand Canyon Skywalk (the glass bridge that lets you walk an exhilarating 70 feet out beyond the rim’s edge) or a pass that gives you access to all the West Rim attractions.

Maverick’s South Rim helicopter tours are less straightforward because there aren’t any direct helicopter rides to this part of the canyon. You won’t be able to board your chopper for your rim-to-rim flight until you’ve flown to the area in an airplane. Fortunately, the plane takes off from the Henderson terminal and the flight is packed with 45 minutes of breathtaking views.

So, which rim do you prefer? Take one of the Maverick helicopters to the West Rim if you’re looking for excitement, adventure and attractions. But if you’re seeking natural beauty, the South Rim is ideal. There aren’t any flights between the West and South Rims, and there aren’t any tours that will take you to both.

Maverick’s helicopter tours come with everything you need, including a professional pilot/guide and limo or shuttle service to and from the entrance of your Las Vegas Strip hotel. Landing tours include a picnic or lunch.
